Northern Chinese Eight Animal Fist Method
The Zhang Mén Tao Gong Fu Association teaches a foundational animal style alongside the Zhang Family Gate Way (Zhang Mén Tao) arts during the student phase of an adepts training.  It is based upon a traditional system of Wu Gong principles from a parent art known as Qi Dao Quan Gongfu (with traditional spelling being: Chi Tao Ch'uan Gungfu).  The system teaches the following martial systems: Tiger, Leopard, Panther, Crane, Praying Mantis, Eagle, Black Cobra, and Wild Boar.  There are also intermediate long fistic forms taught based upon wai/nei gong principles particular to the Qi Dao Quan Gongfu method.  This method is not to be confused with the Shaolin Martial Animal Styles (Buddhist System) or Modern Wu Shu.  As with most internal systems, it has it own 'signature' that will yield very distinct outcomes for its proponents.  Also, as with Zhang Mén Tao, it is Daoist in nature (natural in nature) and will allow the adept to build a foundation of skills to last a lifetime.
Why is it taught?
The Northern Chinese Eight Animal Fist Method has a distinct methodology for developing a person's bones, muscles, strength, and stamina, as well as new methods of thinking and internal spirit/power building.  This is a highly in-depth teaching method and is only traditionally taught in the way of the Eight Animal (8 lower Trigrams) System.  This system is based on the belief that there are eight "Types" of Human Psychological Types.  The Founders of Chi Tao Ch'uan looked about the World of Nature, and sought vivid examples of behavior which were symbolic, to be easily remembered by their students, rather than dry theoretical concepts.
